The Fab portion of the antibody is what determines the idiotype. The Fab portion consists of both a heavy and light chain and is connected to the Fc region (isotype). Every B cell will express a different Fab structure and in a single B cell it will produce only the same Fab.

Process of immunity?

The process of immunity is to produce specific antibodies that bind to antigens on the surface of pathogens. =]

Proteins in blood that bind to antigens?

Antibodies.

Can antigens trigger a response of the immune system?

Anti gens bind to viruses/bacteria that 'fit' them, clumping together and allowing phagocytosis. They tend to be specific to one strain hence why we cannot vaccinate against a virus that mutates frequently or has many strains.

List and describe 4 ways antibodies aid in immunity?

There are four types of antibodies that aid in immunity. The Lysins bind the antigens therefore causing them to disintegrate. The Agglutinins bind the antigens causing the micro-organisms to clump together. The Antitoxins bind the toxins therefore making them harmless to the body. The Opsonins bind the antigens on the outer surface.

What is an anticalin?

An anticalin is any of a class of artificial proteins which are able to bind to antigens.

When the antigens on erythrocytes bind with antibodies in the plasma?

Agglutination and eventual lysis of erythrocytes occurs.

What is the function of MHC?

To bind to antigens for B and T cells to identify as self or foreign.

How do drug blood tests work?

Im guessing that the testing medium contains antigens which bind to a receptor only present on the drug in question, or a range of drugs with a range of antigens.

What is neutralizing antigen?

Its the antigen in a particular foreign body or pathogen that the body recognizes as "allo" or unfamiliar.. Maybe even harmful. So antibodies are produced against these antigens. And since they are 'neutralizing antibodies' it follows that the antigens they bind to are 'neutralizing antigens'

When antibodies bind antigens the clumping of antigens result from?

There are four reactions when antibodies react with antigens: agglutination, precipitation, neutralization or activation of complement. Agglutination is the clumping process that you are looking for.
