Latitudes between 23 degrees 26 minutes north and 23 degrees 26 minutes south are called the "Tropics", because they are between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.

From the tropics to about 60 degrees north and 60S, are the "temperate" zones.
