Answer:

While all the prophets of the Old Testament are significant to the entire picture the Bible paints... in comparing it to the New Testament book of "Revelation," perhaps Daniel is to the Old Testament what Revelation is to the New... only in reverse.

In Daniel, we see the Scriptures "sealed and closed up," unable to be understood, until the time of the end - (Dan.12:9).

"...none of the wicked shall understand; but THE WISE SHALL UNDERSTAND." (Dan.12:10)

And in Revelation we see the "seals" stripped away (Rev.6) by Jesus Christ, who gives understanding to the God-fearing "spirit-minded wise" - thus, marking the time of the end.

"Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures." (Luke 24:45)

The Apocalypse of St. John, is the last book in the New Testament. It is more commonly known as the Revelation of St. John, or simply the Book of Revelation. The Greek word for revelation (lifting of a veil) is apokalypsis, so it can be translated either way.

Since the Book of Revelation is also known as the Apocalypse, and the subject matter deals with a great tribulation at the end of the world, the word apocalypse came to also mean a great catastrophe or the end of the world. It's original meaning of a revelation is not used much in English anymore.
