∙ 11y agoA list of works which are accepted as a true part of a collection. The word comes from its application to The Bible. "Canon law" is the law of the church, and that law has dictated what is and what isn't a part of the Bible. Genesis is; Archie and Jughead is not. Genesis is therefore "canon", one of the accepted books of the Bible according to canon law.
The same principle can be applied, for example, to the Works of Shakespeare. Hamlet is canon; it is accepted by everyone as one of Shakespeare's works. The Second Maiden's tragedy is not canon; it is not generally accepted as Shakespeare's work.
