Firefighting agencies vary by the jurisdictions they cover. For instance, the department nearest your house is likely a city funded local district fire department. If you live in an unincorporated area, a County agency is likely responsible for fire coverage of your home. There are larger state firefighting agencies that deal with emergencies on state lands and parks, as well as departments attached to the National Park Service which cover national parks.

In large emergencies, a common setup once state and federal agencies arrive to bolster the local first response forces is to have what's called a Joint Command, usually comprising a state fire official and a federal representative.
