They are only related in that both are mammals and both are considered carnivores. However, they are in different families. Procyonidae is a New World family of the order Carnivora. It includes the raccoons, coatis, kinkajous, olingos, olinguitos, ringtails and cacomistles. Raccoons are also not related to pandas.

You may be referring to the coati which is a close cousin of the raccoon. They look similar but the coati has a much longer snout.
