Lots of dogs are protective, particularly with their own family. Dogs originally bred as working dogs, such as German shepherd dogs, are the most protective.

It can be a problem if they are allowed to become over-protectiuve as they will then become aggressive with outsiders - animals or people.

One of the most protective of dogs is the Italian sheepdog. They will guard more or less anything and are known in Italy for protecting Goats and Sheep against predators including wolves. In Australia they have been used for guarding penguin colonies which were in danger of etinction.

No breed in particular is "most" protective. It all depends on training and bloodlines.
