A fluid ounce (as opposed to a weight, the avoirdupois ounce) is a unit of volume in the English system of measurement. An ounce is 1/8 of a cup, or 1/16 of a pint, or 1/32 of a quart. It is only tangentially related to the weight ounce, and the two are not directly convertible.
The "imperial ounce" (UK) differs slightly from the US ounce, because they are based on two different reference volumes. The imperial ounce is about 28 mL (28.41 mL) while the US ounce is about 30 mL (29.57 mL).
(see the related question)
fluid ounces measure VOLUME (how much space in a bucket, can, basket, etc) as opposed to WEIGHT.
Liquids are measured in fluid ounces, such as drinks. For instance a regular can of soda is 12 fl oz.
weight (imperial)
No. An fluid ounce is a measure of volume, an ounce is a measure of mass.
Grams can't be converted to fluid ounces. Grams measure mass, while fluid ounces measure volume.
Ounces (Avoirdupois ounces, not fluid ounces. Fluid ounces measure volume, not mass.)
6.5 ounces is 6.5 ounces, and 6.5 fluid ounces is 6.5 fluid ounces. But you cannot interchange the two: fluid ounces measure volume and ounces (avoirdupois) measure weight (mass). 1 fluid ounce of water weighs almost exactly 1 ounce. This is where the volumetric measure fluid ounces was derived from. For other liquids measured this way, they can vary greatly. The weight of 6.5 fluid ounces depends on the fluid's density.
Kilometers can't be converted with fluid ounces. Kilometers measure length, while fluid ounces measure volume.
Milligrams can't be converted to fluid ounces. Milligrams measure mass, while fluid ounces measure volume.
Fluid ounces can't be converted to grams. Fluid ounces measure volume, while grams measure mass.
Fluid ounces measure volume, and so don't really correspond to pounds, which measure weight.Ounces, also known as avoirdupois ounces, are different from fluid ounces, and measure weight. There are 16 ounces to a pound, so there are 60 in 5 pounds.
Pounds can't be converted to fluid ounces. Pounds measure mass, while fluid ounces measure volume.
Pounds can't be converted to fluid ounces. Pounds measure mass, while fluid ounces measure volume.
Cubic centimeters and ounces measure different things. Cubic centimeters measure volume and ounces measure weight. So 2 cc is not equal to any ounces.
You can't convert between the two:- millilitres is a measure of VOLUME Ounces is a measure of WEIGHT However if you refer to Imperial Fluid Ounces then 6.1729433 Imperial Fluid Ounces is 175.392223792 millilitres
