How can I repel flies off my dogs?

I use pine needles, both just in the room or in an oil burner. You could also try hanging a plastic bag full of water up in the room, it works fairly well as long as you hang it up properly and don't run into it.

Flies like many bugs are attracted to light and you could get a couple of 'bug zappers'. They have a low light inside that attracts the bug and then when the bug goes close to it they are zapped.
