Check the fuel pressure. There should be a test port near the throttle body.
If that checks out OK, test the spark to make sure the coil packs are working.
If everything checks out, try a little starting fluid to see if you can run the engine briefly that way. If it will start with starting fluid and not without, you have a fuel delivery problem and you need to go back through and test everything along the way. If you have good pressure to the test port, that's not the problem.

Had the problem with Bonneville not starting....turned out to be the security module. Your mechanic should be able to bypass the security module with a $15 part from Radio Shack. Pretty easy fix.

Answer: Intermittent problems are very hard to diagnose. Your no start problem may be your fuel pump. Try to check it for pressure during the not start problem. Also, check for spark at the spark plugs. From what you described, your problem could be the coil module, the cam angle sensor or the crank angle sensor.

I had this problem with my 1994 Bonneville SE. would try checking the transmission fluid level(that was the problem with mine). If the transmission fluid level is where it's supposed to be then it could be that the transmission is going out or you may need to check the torque converter.
