Not changing the fluid or filter on a reasonable basis, Allowing the fluid to go too low, Towing without add a oil cooler. Age and design. Rebuild it or sink it in the nearest river. The 80's were some of the worst times for American cars. I had a '72 Fleetwood for twenty years. It once ran for 6 months with two cam bearings and one crankshaft insert in pieces at the bottom of the oilpan. But that was the good old 472CID motor. '87 was the 6 cylinder 4-5 speed tranny and would go up in smoke as soon as real pressure was applied. Oh and they would collect dirt, clog the filter and fry the tranny. Drop the tran pan and see how deep the sludge is.
