A nurse is required to get a license from the local nursing authority or State Board of Nursing before they are a nurse. To do this a person must go to a state accredited school of nursing and learn the skills and knowledge that they will often need in the nursing field. The school usually gives a certificate, associate's degree, or a bachelor's degree for finishing the program.
Typically a LPN/LVN requires a certificate program whereas an RN requires an ADRN (Associates degree of registered nursing) or a BSN (Bachelors of science in nursing). Both the ADRN and BSN provide the qualifications required for a RN license but if a person is interested in working any type of managerial position or continuing their education to a Masters degree (which allows more specialization, responsibilities, and skills that can be provided) they would attempt to get the BSN. Some nurses do get the ADRN and then continue on for the BSN while they are working as a RN so that they have a better income while in school.

Some people think that the name of the nurse in Romeo and Juliet is Angelica. This is because of a line in Act 4 Scene 4 of the play where Capulet says, "Look to the baked meats, good Angelica: Spare not for the cost." The Nurse is indeed onstage at this point. However, there are servants rushing around everywhere, and Capulet's instructions are about how to prepare the supper. It may be more plausible that the line be directed at a cook, not a Nurse.
You would need to apply to a school of nursing. Nursing is a regulated profession and nursing schools are required to prepare graduates to meet the entry level competencies required in the profession. Medical assisting does not prepare you for these competencies.
