What can you do if a 1999 Cadillac Catera transmission shakes when you try to start the car?

Start checking out your engine and transmission mounts. Check the rubber to make sure it isn't torn.

its not your ignition its your crankshaft sensor that's the same problem i had.

The crank sensor had to be replaced on my 98 Catera when it was doing the same thing. I had to take it to the dealer to have this done.

I'd start with the crankshaft position sensor cheap fix (50-60) bucks & easy to install if that doesn't work come back and update i hope this helps

This could be an indication of a failing crank sensor. GM has issued a recall for this and you shoudl be able to find out more information from any cadillac or GM dealer.

My 2000 Catera does the same and that is why I am here today searching for suspicion is the immobilizer may be shutting off the fuel and igntion and that module I have yet to find................on another discussion it was said to be in the steering columbe under the lock barrell

Well I had problems with my radio working while the car is running and all I had to do is get a stronger fuse I think it was a 10 and we put a 20 and its been fine ever since.or if its a 20 put a 30 etc.

No, the engine is not dependent on the transmission or transmission fluid in order to start & run.

When the transmission light would come on, it usually menas that there is an issue. On mine, it would come on when the transmission got hot. A lot of times once the computer detects a problem, it will run the transmission in a "safe mode". This mode feels like you have no lower gears, and when you start from a stop or low speed, it is the same as starting in 3rd or 4th gear. This is designed to protect the tranny from any unnecessary or further damage until you can get it looked at. In my instance, the transmission cooling lines where plugged and collapsed and therefore the cooling circuit was inadequate. Unfortunately, the tranny had seen too much heat already and required rebuild..Hope this helps and good luck !!

it could be a blown main fuse, related to the starter, or can it be caused for a bad starter also, or the power is not reaching the solenoid of the starter, ha ha ha ha reddragon
