If you are talking about the BIOS, then turn off your computer, find the jumper on the motherboard labeled "clear cmos" and pull it out and then put it back in.

If you are talking about the Windows password, you can crack it using a program called OPHcrack.

Try pulling the CMOS battery to clear the password out. Some systems have a built in password reset jumper. You can also look into Googling the checksum that some computers produce when an invalid password has been entered.

If you are just locked out because you forgot your password, there are two possible solutions. The best is to go into an administrator account and reset the user account. If you do not have administrator rights on your computer, you will have to go to someone who does in order to do the reset. The alternative is to get some software that is designed to allow recovering or resetting passwords. Some good ones that you can get for free for Windows systems are:

  • Ophcrack - lets you crack the password - so if the password is secure, it may not be able to recover it
  • Offline NT Password & Registry Editor - this is a password reset only
  • PC Login Now - deletes deletes your password, allowing you to access Windows without a password, after which you can create a new one.
  • Kon-Boot - does both reset and possibly recovery of weaker passwords
  • Cain & Abel - password recovery - as long as your password can be cracked
  • LCP - another password recovery tool
  • John the Ripper - another password recovery tool

Apple includes a Reset Password utility on the Mac OS X Install DVD that shipped with the computer. You may also be able to do a reset on Mac OS 9 systems using the install disk for that OS.

I have also attached a link to an explanation of a way to reset the root password on a Linux system. The process requires a bit more skill than using canned software like the ones listed above so you are better off just going to the link and following the directions or getting someone who is computer savvy to carry them out for you.

If a BIOS password is present, it will typically appear within 10 seconds of you pressing the 'power button'. If the password takes much longer to appear then you most likely do not have a BIOS password and can skip ahead to the section titled WINDOWS PASSWORD

BIOS PASSWORD

There are multiple ways of resetting a BIOS password and both involve removing power to the chip that stores some of your computer's custom settings (its called a CMOS chip, and don't worry its not harmful to your computer or your data, or even any of the settings you would normally care about). Resetting the CMOS will remove any passwords placed on the BIOS as well as reset some of your BIOS settings back to default, however will not have any bad effects on your computer or its files. However they will involve removing any power coming to your computer (e.g. unplugging it, removing the battery if it's a laptop) then opening up your computer.

If you have your motherboard's manual, then you can refer to it to perform a reset using the 'jumper' method, which usually involves moving a little plastic/metal piece that connects two pins and having them connect to 2 other pins before moving it back and powering on the computer. This is faster as it does not require you to wait and is reliable.

If you do not have your motherboard's manual, then the other method is to open up the computer (after unplugging it of course!) and find a small silver battery that's the size of a coin. There will be a metal latch that holds the battery in. Using a gentle force, push the metal latch aside (away from the battery) and take the battery out. Now hold the power button on your computer down for about 10 seconds and release it (remember, the computer must remain unplugged). Leave the computer alone for an hour or more. Then come back to it, put the battery back in. Close the case. Plug it in and turn it on. If you are successful, you will receive an error about your computer being unable to read settings, and it will reset the settings back to defaults, including removing any passwords placed on the computer during the early-boot process.

If this doesn't work then repeat the step but leave it for 6 hours or more instead of 1 hour.

WINDOWS PASSWORD

Well one choice you may have is to reformat your computer and start all over again but that doesn't sound like fun.....

Your only choice would be to make a HIREN's Boot CD...

See this CD opens on Boot and runs from the RAM memory not the hard drive. so you make this CD.

first, go to Google and type "hirens boot cd" it should be the fist link.

Second, scroll down until you find the password tool section look for these letters under that section "NTPWD"

Now those letters are a program that will not retrieve your lost password but it will help you reset it and make a new one for your computer.

watch this video on YouTube:

See related link how to make cd.

this one will show you how to make the CD itself.

than watch this video, this one will show you how to reset your computer password:

See related link how to reset your computer password.

They will be a few things you will need to get the job done:

Get a pack of blank disc's don't use CD-RW (the ones with the black bottom) get the regular ones.

Anyway Iv'e reset passwords for people doing this.

just follow the directions on the you tube videos in the links.

Unscrew the Cabinet of your Computer Tower and place it on the ground so that you can see the motherboard (the large board that you see with wires attached everywhere). Switch off the power and follow the steps below.

1.Locate a small cell on motherboard. don't worry it is the ONLY cell in the full towe so don't worry if you are thinking 'what if i select the wrong cell'

It will be the size of a 50p coin or a cent.

2.Now take it out from its holder using a suitable thing (i generally use a knife but if you are a novice at it, then use your finger nail)

3.wait for 2 minutes (This has actually done a reset to your CMOS/BIOS. So Your passwords are now flashed)

4.place i back carefully.

5.Switch on the computer and go to your BIOS settings by tapping 'Del' key.

(If it doesn't come, try F8 or F12)

6. Give the new settings

7.Press F10 to Save and exit.

Note: Next time, don't forget the password. type it down in your cell phone and then text it to yourself.

Happy Computing!

Thanks

If you are using a desktop, just remove the BIOS battery and will erase all current passwords (on some motherboards you will need to use a jumper to reset BIOS settings).

If you are using a laptop, there are two choices. First one is to send the laptop to the manufacture or independent shop and they will replace the BIOS chip for second. Second one is to purchase special CD which allows to erase BIOS passwords. Such CDs are manufacture specific and have to be used with extreme caution. Just google it.

No. If this is a dell, they can get you in. There are ways to get your password. You can also reinstall the OS because you have the disk, or do a system restore before you set the password. I won't explain the ways to extract the password, as I have heard this a thousand times from people who have stolen computers.
