What you describe sounds like a problem with the electronic part of trans such as solnoid in trans or wiring in, or outside the trans. a small amount of slipage will also put that light on in some vehicles.
Why are ets and engine light on in 98 Chevy cavalier
Normally the (Electronic Traction Control) ETS light is on when the ETS is turned off. Make sure the ETS is on and not off when driving at all times winter or summer.
Probably because you have the ETS turned off.
i have a 2002 saturn ls2. my transmission jerks in first and second gear and when i put on breaks. what should i do?
what does it mean when the ets light is on
wat does ETS dash light mean on a mercedes ml 320
ETS is connected to your ABS. ETS is a traction control and is linked to your ABS so to get your ETS light off you'll probably have to fix your ABS to get the light off. On mine, fixing a broken wire on my ABS plug which runs into the hub fixed my problem.
When an automatic car jerks into fourth gear it could be the transmission. You may need transmission fluid or a new transmission. A licensed mechanic can check the car.
ets and check engine light on in 98 Chevy cavalier
ok. see the button with the wheels on it near the dimmer switch. It says ETS on it. push and it will light up.
no you may need a transmission adjustment or maybe a new filter
If a car jerks into fourth gear, the transmission may be slipping. The car could also need transmission fluid. A licensed mechanic can help with more information.
It is supposed to. ETS (Enhanced Traction System) is turned on and off with that switch. Leave it on. The system is on and working when the light is off.It is supposed to. it is a enhanced traction service light simple sensor
Check that your air sensor is plugged in/connected to where it should be - this is the most common reason for ETS light coming on
If the transmission jerks 1st check the level of transmission fluid. To do this place the car in park, Place the parking brake on, Next start engine and pull out the transmission dip stick wipe with a clean cloth or paper towel re-insert the dip stick and check the level if low add transmission fluid to the proper level. Now drive car and if it shifts normal you are done. If the transmission does not shift then the transmission oil and filter must be changed. Once this is done test the car and if it shifts you are done. If it still jerks you will have to take it to a transmission shop for their diagnostics.
If these two lights come on together then the extra traction sensor is broken and needs to be replaced when the sensor is fixed the check engine light will go off and the ets light will work properly again.
ETS stands for Electronic Traction System, check your owners manual. It controls your car's slippage on ice and other surfaces. Something might have happened with your ETS as your service engine light is on. Jerking in gear could be a torque converter problem or bad cluthes in the tranny.************************The Jerking in gear is caused by the SAME problem as what is causing your "ETS off" light to come on. If any aspect of the ETS system fails the entire thing wont start up and will cause a chain of other things to "appear" wrong when you run the car. More often then not this is caused by a bad sensor that can easily and cheaply replaced.Don't listen to these goofballs who are telling you you need new transmissions, clutch's, or throttle bodies. That will just be money down the drain.HOWEVER, if you keep driving your car when the "ETS off" light comes on, you run the risk of causing actual damage to those areas and more, THEN you might need to replace those. But initially THEY are not part of the problem. Fix it early, fix it right, and you avoid more chain reaction problems down the road.
The check engine light and the ETS light were both on in my 99 Cavalier and it also jerked when giving it the gas. I took it to the auto store and they hooked it up to a diagnostic machine and it was the emission sensor/switch. The test was free...the switch ran around $32.00 and once it was replaced the lights to both are no longer on. First, when the check engine light comes on, it will ignore input data from every other module in the vehicle, including the ETS (Enhanced Traction System). this will in turn illuminate the ETS light, even though there may be nothing wrong with it. Secondly, when you say jerk, do you mean an engine misfire or do you mean a harsh engagment in the transmission. Either way, you need to have the DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) pulled from the PCM (PowerTrain Control Module). If it's a simple misfire code, then a set of SparkPlugs and Wires should do the trick, unless you have a bad coil pack or ignition module, which is also easy to replace. If it's a transmission code, it may be a faulty shift solenoid. The first thing i would do is take it to a parts store that will hook up a scan tool and pull DTC's for free. I hope I've helped... Matt ASE Tech in Training I had the same issue, added transmission fluid and it no longer jumps when it shifts. The light is still on but I imagine it just needs to codes cleared.
When there is a failure that sets the check engine light, the vehicle responds by going into a limp mode. This means traction control and ETS are automatically turned off for safety and to prevent further problems with the vehicle.
I have a 1997 Chevy cavelier and it say's ets off check engine I'm curious to what would cause this problem and how do you fix it.
The computer needs to be reset for the transmission its around $250 but will resolve the issue.
If your ETS light is on you may want to take a look a your brakes. If your brakes are making a noise, then the sensor has tripped your ETS sensor. Your ETS light is just like the ABS in most vehicles, it means there is a brake problem. Usually it means it is time to change them. The ETS should be off unless there is an electrical problem in the switch (located on the autmatic shifter on some models), or some other electrical problem somewhere else that is causing it to read as off by the computer.
Enhanced Traction System or Traction Control.
