You could use an avocado shell for compost. Just make sure the shell doesn't have the little company sticker on it, because the sticker isn't biodegradable.

You can use the two halves of the avocado shell to fill with soil or seedling mix, to plant seeds or small plants in. When your plant is ready to put in the ground you can loosen the soil a bit deeper than the avocado shell and put the whole thing into the ground. The shell will degrade into the soil.
