Canada suffered tremendously from the depression. GNP fell 40% largely because Canada's export economy was based primarily on commodoties which became of less need after WW2. This led to unemployment rates actually higher than in the U.S. (27 compared to 25). Aside from that political ideologies changed and the role of the national government became more important than before when the provincial governments were the primary regulating bodies.

Canada was hard hit during the depression because they depended on export sales to the United States, England and other countries. When businessmen in those countries lost all their money they could no longer conduct business with the Canadian businessmen. The Logging, farming and fishing industry suffered immensely.
