Ours had a bad instrument cluster. It cost around $300 to fix by replacing the whole instrument cluster. There was nothing actually wrong with the temp it was just the cluster malfunctioning. Ours usually occured in the winter and then worked fine in the summer.

Why would the temp gauge jump around and low coolant light is lit on a 2000 Pontiac Montana if there is no heat but fluid levels are good could this be a blown head gasket?

Not likely. It's probably the Water Temperature Sending Unit located on the engine, or the signal processor on the instrument panel (not likely).

Why does a 2000 Pontiac Montana not heat up or blow hot air?

My daughter had the same trouble with her 2000 escort. It was low on coolant. 2nd opinion: The most likely problem is the thermostat, which as I have read in here is a pain to get to.
