Piston rings or Rich oil .
sounds like you have head gasket problem if the exhaust smoke is white in colour then its engine coolant if its blue smoke then its burning oil you will need to get the engine pressure tested at a garage.
Could have a head gasket problem. Need to know what color smoke is coming out of exhaust. If the smoke is white and has a sweet smell to it, you have a bad head gasket or a cracked head or both.
In most cases I've seen, the white smoke is caused by oil on the exhaust. And as far as the idle speed, a simple adjustment on the carburetor should fix that. Or bad rings , bad valve seals or crank case is over full and pushing oil into the carb. threw the breather tube. Hope this helps
White smoke is an indicator you have a head gasket leak. The white smoke is actually water or coolant mixing into the combustion chamber with the fuel and air. Have you noticed a bit of a rough idle? Have you looked at your coolant level lately?
your not getting oil to the engine or its running low
You could have a bad exhaust valve
Possible that coolant is leaking into combustion chamber and burning off. Does engine act like its missing at idle and smooths out at higher rpms? possible head gasket. I had the same problem i used steelseal.com worth its weight in gold.
Some motors at idle are unable to burn the entire fuel charge because the combustion temperature is insufficient at that regime, what you see as white smoke is indeed raw fuel, it is detrimental for any engine to idle too much for the same reason I mentioned, because part of the unburnt fuel dilutes the oil and can cause lubrication problems in the cylinder liners and damage them as well as other parts that rely on lubrication.
White smoke or white/grey smoke coming out of the tail pipe usually indicates a head gasket problem. Particularly if there is fluid coming out of the exhaust which will also cause your car to overheat because water is getting from your block into your motor... Black smoke usually indicates iol burning such as you rings are bad etc.... Answer It can also be an egr problem like leaking egr cooler just depends on the engine. but water entering the combustion chamber is the main reason.
Typically, white smoke is just water vapor. Water vapor is normal when the engine is cold. Water is produced when gasoline is burned. Gasoline is a chemical compound called a hydrocarbon and burning of hydrocarbons produce water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2). When the exhaust line is cold, such as a cold morning, the exhaust is cooled quite a bit by the time it comes out the tailpipe, and the cooled water vapor in the exhaust turns to white "smoke" much the same as your breath is visible when it's cold out. If your engine is loosing coolant when it idles, make sure the engine cooling fan is operating properly. If the engine isn't cooling properly when it's idling, the radiator will boil over and you'll loose coolant. Once you start moving, air will move over the radiator and the coolant will not boil over. you may have a vacuum diaphragm allowing coolant to be sucked into engine such as heater control valve
Do you mean 'idle' - like turned off? Or idling with motor running and gear in neutral? Either way, white smoke (not just white or clear steam) usually means burning or burnt oil. Check engine seals and manifold gaskets - or maybe worn piston rings.
white smoke does not always mean oil. Where is the smoke coming from. Sometimes small pin holes in the water system can cause a white smoke or steam which appears to be smoke. If the engine is at idle that would be the only time you could see that type of hole until it gets bigger. Check for any loss of water/antifreeze in the vehicle.
