Black smoke indicates excessive fuel possibly the engine is flooding this would also explain the gurgling.
Black smoke usually means the engine is running too rich. The fuel/air mixture is incorrect. Blue smoke is oil burning.
It usually means too much fuel or not enough spark.
Assuming this is a gasoline engine, it is running rich from excess gasoline.
If it's the inside of the exhaust that's black it could be caused by burnt oil in the engine.
Excess fuel causes black smoke.
Black exhaust smoke means the engine is burning too much fuel. The first think you should check is your air-filter and other intake components like the fuel injectors and the fuel pressure regulator.
Usually a black tail pipe is an indication of an engine running rich ( air/fuel mixture) caused by a bad oxygen sensor causing inproper fuel mixture, or caused by a restricted intake (dirty airfilter, carbon build up ect.) Most vehilcles will have some blackening of the tailpipe. If its excessive (smoking) have a mechanic look at it.
AGE and engine failure
mixture is too rich, is this carb. or injection? Have it checked. Some of this discoloration is normal - caused by carbon monoxide.
Catalytic converters clog due to the carbon that the car produces. Usually, when the carbon has built up inside the cat., black smoke will come out of the tailpipe when you rev the engine. In extreme cases, black soot is visible on the ground next to the vehicle's tailpipe. Crystal Woll
