This is properly understood when Ohm's Law is applied: Voltage, Amperege and Resistance are correctly applied to a circuit for it's correct function. The circuit breaker acts as a protective device and trips when a correct electrical circuit does not exist. The wrong breaker may have been installed. the wrong gauge of wire may have been used, the pumps and heaters may be drawing more amps then planned for or a short circuit or loose connection are all possible faults. Contact the electrician that installed the system for resolution of the problem or an outside electrician if the problem isn't corrected. Caution: Water and Electricity should not be trusted when in close proximity.

Sounds like you have av automatic switchbox, and it is turning off due to over-voltage.

If you have recently started using a new electrical appliance, try turning that off and see if the problem persists.

If you have not recently plugged in anything new, the problem is most likely due to a faulty connection somewhere. This happended to me once 0o

In my case, the problem was that water had leaked in to one of the outdoor wall outlets, and it was short circuiting.

Note: The circuit box is what prevents your house from burning down when something like this happens! Make sure to locate the error, rather than merely switching it back on!

The need to de energize the circuit the breaker is feeding is a cause to have a circuit breaker switched off. If you are referring to a breaker tripping off, the cause would be from an overload condition being applied to the circuit, the breaker sensing it and shutting the circuit off.

There are two main reasons that a breaker might not reset. One is mechanical failure in the breaker itself. If this is the case the breaker has to be replaced. The other reason that the breaker might not reset is that the breaker is doing its job and still senses an overload when the breaker is switched back on after an overload trip.

To check the breaker as to which fault is occurring disconnect the load conductor from the breaker. Try resetting the breaker. If it will not reset then it is a mechanical fault. If the breaker resets with the load conductor off then shut the breaker off, reconnect the load conductor and turn the circuit back on.

If it trips this time then there is a fault in the circuit and it has to be located and repaired before the circuit is put back into service. You might need an electrician to troubleshoot the circuit depending on what equipment the circuit controls.

Circuit breaker is to break the circuit in case of a fault. if the fault occurs and the sensing devices trigger the breaker, then breaker will not stay on.

Many times, a circuit breaker may trip when the circuit is overloaded. Before plugging in electronics and appliances, you should check to ensure that the circuit can handle the load.Ê

The electrical system could have a short. Turn off every breaker then turn the switch on. If the switch still turns off then either the box has an electrical problem or the switch is bad.

Where is the ac circuit breaker?

It's in the basement. Turn on the light switch behind the dryer, walk past the furnace, stay to the left of the water heater, and you'll eventually see the breaker box on the wall in front of you. For heaven's sake, do be careful.

With a 480 three phase switch box can you install single phase breakers to obtain 277 volts?

Yes. make sure the brand of breaker you are installing in the switch box matches the switch box maufacturer. There is usually a sticker inside the box listing the model numbers that can be used. Also, before buying a 277 volt breaker, make sure the switch box has a neutral bus in it (it is usually Grey or white) Some switch boxes do not have a neutral in them because the loads suppplied did not require them.

Can a 220 Volt well motor be added to a 200 amp box or does it need its own box?

The well pump breaker is installed in two slots in your breaker box. You then run the correct size cable for the amperage of the pump to the area where the pressure tank is located. install a breaker or disconnect on the wall near the pressure tank and then connect the low pressure switch to the disconnect. Connect the pump to the low pressure switch.

i've lost power in one bedroom and lighting in adjacent bathroom, where do i start my troubleshooting?

How do you decide on the rating of a main switch?

The rating of the main switch is decided upon by the current incoming mains. The main switch can't be lower than the incoming. In order to upgrade the main switch, the breaker box will need a complete upgrade.

What is wrong when you switch from fan to air conditioner and it shuts the breaker in the electricity box?

You're actually OPENING the breaker. And it means you're drawing too much power. 1 air conditioner=about 10 box fans. Try unplugging things using the same circuit. An air conditioner draws a lot of juice. An A/C and a microwave, for example, are too much for most homes to handle. Your breaker box should (hopefully) tell you what breaker goes where.
