It could be bad. More likely it is the car draining the charge. Check all accessories such as cigarette lighter 12v outlets trunk lights.
No need to charge it at first. But when you unbox it, keep the battery untill it dies, then charge it to the max. Do that for 5 days and the battery will be just perfect.

Use a battery charger with a 2amp charge. Takes a few days. These small batteries don't like to be charged too fast with high amps.

You can store a battery on the ground, I belive in the old days when the battery case was made from a different material you couldn't. It is an old wives tale that leaving a battery on the ground causes it to drain.
