Excessively greasy foods and chocolate may cause a dog to get diarrhea. So could the consumption of milk and other dairy products. Other things that are toxic/bad for dogs that can cause them to vomit and/or have diarrhea are: mushrooms, moldy or spoiled food, garbage, some baby foods, bones from fish, from cooked poultry, or from raw or cooked other meat sources, cat food, coffee, tea, and other caffeinated foods and beverages, citrus oil extracts, fat trimmings, grapes and raisins, hops, human vitamin supplements containing iron, large amounts of liver, macadamia nuts, marijuana, onions and garlic(raw, cooked, or powder), rhubarb, stems and leaves from both potato and tomato plants...

This condition is known as colitis, which is typically caused by stresses such as boarding in a kennel, changing a diet without any sort of transition, moving into a new home, or in some cases having frightened reactions to severe weather. It can also be caused by parasites, so take your dog to the vet as soon as possible. They can diagnose medication to help your dog recover, regardless of the cause.
