A Earthquake is caused by the two plates (Plate Boundary) you can have 3 Plate Boundaries 1) Destructive Plate Boundary 2) Collision Plate Boundary 3) Conservative Plate Boundary and this are what cause a earthquake because when they meet they build so much pressure it makes a earthquake.

Earthquakes happen along fault-lines. Fault-lines are cracks in the Earths crust that seem to split it. Below the crack, near the Earth's core, is the Focus. But it is too far deep to measure where an earthquake starts. Where we measure is the Epicenter, the area above the Focus.

Earthquakes are caused by plate tectonics. The mantle underneath the earth's Crust moves the crust similarly to a huge and slow conveyor belt. This moves the crust, and the plates that make it up (see related links for an image of all the plates). Those plates move in different directions, as shown in that image. When the plates move, that can cause an earthquake depending on the size of the fault line/boundary.

Er. How are earthquakes caused is what you meant to say, right?

Earthquakes are caused when the earth's outer crust, or tectonic plates, cause friction between each other. When two neighboring plates slide under or rub against eachother, the friction and movement create an earthquake.

Because One Tectonic Plate Shifts Under Or Above Another Which Causes The Land Above To Move Around. When One Tectonic Plate Gets Shifted It Makes Tremors And Then Every Thing moves, shakes And Rumbles. It Is Sort Of Like An Equals Sign =There Is One Above The Other. :)

Most earthquakes are not caused by folding they are actually caused by faulting a sudden movement of land caused by friction.

What causes tsunami and earthquakes in Japan?

Earthquakes in Japan are caused by the movement of tectonic plates. A tsunami is a large ocean wave that is caused by sudden motion on the ocean floor which can be triggered by earthquakes.

Are earthquakes caused by wind?

No, earthquakes cannot be caused by the wind at all. Earthquakes are caused by tectonic plate boundaries, where the moving plates generate pressure. The pressure is released as an earthquake. Occasionally earthquakes may be caused by volcanoes, but this is simply another effect of moving tectonic plates. So the wind has no influence whatsoever on earthquakes or seismic activity.
