Apache is not the name of a tribe but a large group of related tribes speaking closely related languages. there was never a chief of all the Apache people and even each tribe would have more than one chief.

Some of the many Apache tribes are:

  • Jicariilla or Olleros

  • Chiricahua or Gilenos or Mimbres or Mogollon or Chokonens
  • White Mountain or Coyoteros

They spoke seven related languages. They had distinct and competitive with each other. cultures. Within each group of the Apache they lived in many independent bands.
