Best Answer

The longest distance is from North to South Pole which is 20.004 km.

For cities I have found Lisbon, Christchurch 19.451 km

As far as I know, the City of Brisbane (Queensland, Australia) is the biggest urban area in the world, though somewhere else might have grown bigger since this was true. It still has the largest variety of snakes of any urban area in the world.

Why is the equator the longest line of latitude?

The equator is located at 0 degrees latitude, which means it is located at the circunference of Earth. Earth is shaped like a sphere, and the circumference of a sphere is the longest distance around any part of the sphere. Therefore, this makes the equator the longest line of latitude.

What is the longest distance from one place to another?

The longest possible distance from one place to another on the surface of the earth is half of the earth's circumference.(If it were any further, you could go around the other way, which would be shorter.)Since the earth bulges slightly around the equator, the equator has the greatest circumference of any circle on the earth. The equatorial diameter is 7,926 miles (12,756 km) so the circumference at the equator is (7,926 x pi) = 24,900 miles (40,074 km).The longest possible distance between one place and another on the earth is 12,450 miles (20,037 km).

How do you measure find the distance between two cities?

If the cities are close to each other, then you can treat them as if they were on a plane surface and the distance between them would be the scaled-up version of the distance between them on a map. However, if the cities are further apart then you need to take account of the fact that they are on a spherical surface. To do this you need to identify the plane which is defined by the two cities and the centre of the earth. This plane will meet the surface of the earth in what is known as the great arc, and the distance between the two cities is measure along the great arc. Incidentally, this is why flights from London to Tokyo, for example, fly over the North pole.
