What classes should you take in high school in order to go to college for nursing?

On top of your nursing classes and clinicals, most schools require Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2, Biology electives, Chemistry, Organic and/or Biochemistry, Microbiology, a math course, Pharmacology and general electives.
General electives that are beneficial to understanding a patient better are typically anything under sociology, anthropology, and psychology.
That's just a general listing its better to look at the schools you're applying too and understand what requirements they have and expect out of you for that program.

∙ 12y agoMost nursing schools want entering freshman to have a 3.0 GPA or higher, depending on the school. Keep that in mind. In regards to classes you need to take, focus on the sciences (especially biology, anatomy and chemistry), the Social Sciences such as psychology or sociology, and math such as statistics and calculus. When you enter nursing school, you will have to take classes (and eventually clinicals) in multiple areas of the nursing field, not just the area you think you may be interested in. The college wants its graduates to be well rounded and have knowledge of all areas of the field. You will find which area you are most interested in through your classes and clinicals as well as any nursing related jobs you have during your time in school.

∙ 16y agoYou must be very good with dosage calculations: generally requires a minimum 3.7gpa in that class, and on the exam. Because you can't screw this up, and could kill a patient, this will be the area you must know (and practice) thoroughly.
So, you must take math up to, and including, College Algebra (this is the class above "intermediate algebra") sometimes it is required that you take pre-calculus, the next tier up from College Algebra. This algebra is required for the inorganic/organic chemistry classes that will be required.
