You tune the viola to the high A, to the A string, Tune the A string to the D string, D string to the C string. C string to G string, which is the lowest and thickest string. Make sure to make sure that there isn't a sound like wa-wawa-wa-wa-wa. And the bow is on both strings.

∙ 9y agoThe question amounts to whether notes played as scored for violin will sound in concert pitch, or are transposed. Violins play in concert pitch, that is, in C. Therefore by convention we say, "The violin is in the key of C". It's just that simple. Check any conductor's score if you need verification.
Any other answers you might find that say something like "The violin is not assigned one specific key because it is able to easily play in any key" are just monumentally idiotic and mind-numbingly wrong.
