Even though Christmas in Australia falls in mid-summer, people with a special role, such as Father Christmas/ Santa Claus, etc, still wear those traditional (and very hot) suits.
Everyone else just wears normal clothing which, in Australia in December, is shorts, short-sleeved shirts, and sandals or thongs for footwear (thongs having a quite different meaning in Australia to that known in America).
