The 18th amendment provided the prohibition of alchol, it was passed during the Progressive era, but was later repealed by the 21st Amendment.
The prohibition Era was from 1920 - 1933
Though the Temperence(anti alcohol) movement began long before, the 18th amendment began the era of prohibition. The 21st Amendment ended prohibition making the sale and consumption of alcohol legal once again. It is easy to remember this by just remembering the two legal ages in America.
The 18th amendment (the Volstead Act), entered America into the time called the Prohibition Era. This was January 16, 1920. The 18th amendment was ratified on December 5, 1933, when it became legal to buy and sell alcohol unless prohibited by a state law.
