Ada Lovelace (1815-1852) was an English mathematician and writer chiefly known for her work on Charles Babbage's Analytical Engines. She wrote what is now recognized as the first algorithm intended to be processed by a machine, and is therefore considered the first programmer.

She was born The Honourable Augusta Ada Byron to George Gordon Byron (6th Baron Byron) and Anne Isabella Milbanke (11th Baroness Wentworth). She married William King-Noel (1st Earl of Lovelace) and became Augusta Ada King (Countess of Lovelace), but is better known as Ada Lovelace.
