Motorcraft MERCON automatic transmission fluid ( according to the Owner Guide )
Clutch master cylinder, usually located near the brake master cylinder. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I chose the ( 1996 and 2003 ) Ford Escort owners manuals to look at and they show that the brake master cylinder is also used for the hydraulic clutch
Use Mercon ATF.....2 7/8 quarts.
Call a local Ford dealer and speak to the Service Manager. Ask him what fluid it uses. If you installed the incorrect fluid, then drain the fluid an install correct fluid. Then get yourself an owner's manual and read it. You can sometimes find them at a salvage yard.
