Britain concentrated on its war against France. After Britain defeated France in 1814, British leaders turned their attention to the United States. When the war began, the United States military was weak. The navy had only about 16 ships.
The Non-Intercourse Act was passed in 1809 and replaced the Embargo Act of 1807. According to the Embargo Act, the United States was prohibited from exporting goods to any country. The Embargo Act was meant to punish France and Great Britain, but it actually hurt the United States more. Under the Non-Intercourse Act, the United States could trade with any country except France or Great Britain.
If you are talking about World War 2 the reason they did not stop Japan first is because Britain (in collabaration with the United States) explained how the dominance of Hitler was getting so great. So, the United States agreed that the greater problem (Hitler) should be dealt with first, but by the end of the War Britain suffered many casualties so Britain helped with what they could in war in Japan but once the United States had the Atomic Bomb they didn't need much help after that

After the American Revolutionary War, but Britain still interfered until the war of 1812 when the realized that the United States was a strong and independent country that could survive on its own.
The Kingdom of Great Britain never really owned the United States of America, though it could be said to have owned it from it's inception until 1783. Although separatism from Britain was at first supported by a minority of the population on Britain's American colonies, the civil war was botched by Britain's intervention, with British forces not understanding the difference between friend and foe. This led to massive support for independence and the United States of America was formed in 1776 by a declaration of independence from Great Britain. Great Britain capitulated in 1783 and recognised the United States of America as an independent nation. So, since the 'United States of America' was a concept that Britain refused to recognise until it signed the Treaty of Paris and gave the colonies to the colonists, it can most fairly be stated that it never owned the US.
A word for United States could be US or USA. Or the full name could be used, United States of America.
The Battle of Britain was not exactly the beginning of the end for Great Britain since they were successful in driving the German airborne raiders off but World War II as a whole could be counted as the beginning of the end for Britain because after the war, the two superpowers that emerged were not Britain and the Soviet Union, they were the United States and the Soviet Union so basically Britain started declining after that until all it had left were little jump jet carriers, with no formidable navy or air force like the United States.
