There are a lot of things that can cause stiff muscles, such as sleeping awkwardly, on too many pillows or in a strange position. Trauma where your neck, head or shoulder was affected. Sometimes even something mild like whiplash can cause a stiff neck. Swimming, tennis or anything that requires lifting heavy objects can cause stiffness. Sometimes even poor posture can cause neck and shoulder problems. Stress can also cause neck problems.

In severe cases, neck and shoulder pains may be caused by a serious infection or a tumor. If stiff neck is accompanied by fever, headache, nausea or vomiting and/or confusion consult a doctor, you might have an infection known as meningitis.

This can be due to stress, long hours of working in front of the system. If the pain is increasing you better give some medical attention, or it may lead to spondylosis. I was suffering from similar kind of pain a couple of months back. Went for a scan, complete rest but got only temporary relief. The pain kept coming back. then I went for an Ayurveda treatment, they method of treating is amazing, started feeling better in a couple of days, some exercises and massages absolutely did wonders. I went to Ayurvaid Hospital. You can get in touch with the them and know what they suggest for you.

A pain in the shoulder could be attributed to injury or a disease of the shoulder joints. A fractured bone in the shoulder can also contribute to this type of pain.
