This guy means that he cares about you so strongly, if anything were to happen to you, it would kill him inside. He is trying to show you that he cares so much about you, and if anything were to happen to you. He would never forgive himself because you mean more to him then anything. Safe means that he feels he can be open, but more than that, psycholgically speaking, he feel that you can take his deeper emotions on for yourself. You are a mother and a therapist. It is a valuable milestone that certian people have to make.

∙ 10y agoThe reason that your guy friend tells you that he feels protective of you could be because he likes you more than just a friend.
It could be that he likes you like said above, or it could be because that you're a close enough friend unlike most that he feels like you have made or been made a part of his family, and heart. Affection like that is definitely a keeper in my opinion.
