Is it drum brakes? It's time for an inspection unless you just wanna replace the rear brakes yourself.
The grinding could be coming from the rear brakes.
Could be brakes or if rear wheel drive could be a "U" joint going bad
I am having the same problem. Ist time overhauled calipers. Right front pads wore out quickly. Next replaced calipers, same deal right front is locked to the point where care shakes and cannot be driven. Thinking proportioning valve or master cylinder? Anyone ever run into this?
Heavy breaking with no ABS. Try to start breaking earlier and use less pressure.
check brake pads for thickness. check hubbearings.
could be weak return springs, or a broken spring. if springs, put on new ones. they are not that much at a auto parts place.
It could be one of your front axels aka cv joints. I have replaced mine three times.
if back brakes are drum i would think they are worn out not allowing pistons in wheel cylanders to return. also could be valve in master cylander.altho that would cause all brakes to lock up. if disk brakes your calipers need overhauling or replacing
The year, make and model info would be helpful but it could be rusty or bent backing plates. I doubt it is a bearing. Bearings make a rumble noise when they are going bad. Pull the rear wheels off and inspect the brakes and backing plates.
After a brake job on my 1998 Chrysler the the brakes starting locking up , I was on a 3000 mile trip and the only thing that would help was to bleed the brakes off, Nobody could help me , when we got back home i found an old chrysler Machanic , He told me to reach down and pull up the brack pedal until it clicked two times , i did and it Fixed the Problem
This is too dangerous for you to tackle on your own. Take it to a garage you trust and they will diagnose the problem. Then you coulld have them do the work or you could take it home and do it yourself.
well, it depends how you look at it. it could if you meant it as in backing up
