When the trans computer detects a malfunction it sets a trouble code and defaults to 2nd gear. You need to have it checked for codes to know what to diagnose.
Shift solenoid a malfunction. A failed solenoid pack is a likely cause.
i have a code on my chrysler town and country 3.8l front wheel drive. the code read P0755 the mechanic says its is shift solenoid. could you tell me how to replace it and where it is located. eg on the housing of the transmittion case or in the housing. thanks dave
More then likely, one of the electronic solenoids in the control pack on the front of the transmission case.
there is no Chevy town and country. its a Chrysler.
The torque converter control (tcc) solenoid. You need to go to a shop that specializes in transmissions and have them diagnosis it for you. It very possibily could be a inexpensive repair.
They are in the brick sized unit bolted to the front of the trasnmission case.
Fluid, computer, sensor, wiring, internal failure.
If the gear shift isn't free at all then there could be a problem with the shift censor. If this isn't the case then the linkage in the transmission is broken.
TCM Malfunction, And/Or Speedometer Sensor Malfunction.
