As an eye doctor, I hear this question frequently. An infrequent pain that might be described "shooting" or "ice-pick-like" in one eye lasting a second or less, while quite painful, is generally not a sign of a more serious problem. Evaluation by an optometrist or ophthalmologist is highly recommended, however, to rule out any underlying cause, especially if the pain is occurring with increasing frequency or severity.

you think there not serious but believe me,i had a pain in my eye before and went to the optician and found out i had a catarac,which causes my one eye to be blind,which doesnt affect me because its been like it since ive been born.
