What could cause your 96 Dodge Dakota to not idle?

Well my '97 has a 3.9. It got to the point where it would stall and not to idle unless you pushed the gas pedal down a little. It didn't trigger the check engine light. I cleaned the IAC (Idle air control) soleniod. It helped for a while then it came back. I ended up replacing it a couple of months ago and it seems O.K. so far. It is located on the back (firewall side)of the throttle body. It is held on by 2 Allen screws. You can clean it with carburetor cleaner and an old tooth brush. Make sure that you don't scratch or bang it. I also cleaned the port out that the plunger from the solenoid goes into. Good luck......
