What could humans have once they learned to express past actions?

Once humans were able to express past actions, that gave them a perspective on their history. They could learn about, and then discuss, what their ancestors did; this historical point of view allowed them to either avoid making the same mistakes, or to duplicate the positive actions their ancestors took. Being able to talk about the past also allowed human beings to make strategies that planned for the future, and to evaluate how far they had come (and how far they still needed to go).
