Short circuit somewhere in the reverse-light or even the reverse switch itself. Other causes are also possible.
Check to make that the brake lights are working - shift interlock is in the same circuit - could ba a bad fuse. You can try turning the key (with engine off) o to the first position (Unlock) shift to neutral to start vehicle and then shift to "Drive or Reverse"
Check to see if brake lights are workingShift interlock and brake lights are on common circuitCheck fuse Try turning key to 1st (unlock) position without engine runningShift to neutral to start and then shift to Drive or Reverse
Check to see if the stop lights are working--same circuit as the shift interlock, Perhaps blown fuse? Try turning the key to 1st position, shifting to neutral to start vehicle and then shift to Drive or Reverse
It's most likely the reverse/neutral safety switch located on your transmission
Does it shift out of Park?If not check stop light fuse - shift interlock and stop lights are a common circuit If it does shift out of Park then shift linkage may need adjustment Try turning key to first position (Unlock) without engine running and the shift to neutral to start vehicle and then shift to Drive
switch on the transmission which sends a signal to the reverse lights when shift is in reverse......... is shot. You need a mechanic.
There is a little box or cap in front of the shifter remove the cover and press down with a screw driver. Then check the fuse box and change out the fuse and you will be able to shift to reverse.
Could be blubs burntout, fuse blown or a bad relay switch. If that's not problem. Then could be switch on the shifter or on transmission depends on year of car. when you shift to reverse it should trigger switch for backup lights.Hope this helps.
Check the fuse for the brake lights Shift interlock is the same circuitAs an emergency you can try--move the key to first position (unlock) with out starting vehicle - shift to neutral and then start vehicleAnswerCheck the fuse for the brake lights Shift interlock is the same circuit As an emergency you can try--move the key to first position (unlock) with out starting vehicle - shift to neutral and then start vehicle
Check reverse light circuitry Socket shorted to ground? Replace fuse with a test light - put vehicle in reverse if shorted to ground light will illuminate chase down circuit until you find "short" (switch , wiring, bad socket, etc.)
the wire in the steering column is shorting out
Where is the fuse located for the reverse lights
Stuck in "Park"? check stop light fuse and stop light switch Try turning key to 1st (unlock) position then shift to neutral to start vehicle and then shift to Drive
In the 1988 Nissan the alternator, instrument panel, and backup lights shared a fuse. Before changing a fuse see if the backup lights work (have someone watch when you are in reverse). If the neutral start/backup light switch is broken internally, it can be blowing the fuse when you put the car in reverse.
The light bulb may be burnt out for the dashboard display. The fuse for the dashboard display may be blown. The fuse can be found in the fuse box.
Check to see if the stop lights are working - same circuit for shift interlock and stop lights - check fuse Try turning key to 1st (unlock) position Shift to Neutral Start vehicle and then shift to "Drive"
Check fuse for stop lights same circuit for shift interlock or turn key to 1st position (unlock) and move shift lever to neutral to start
could be a fuse or the O.D. solenoid
A couple more suspects...Check the shift interlock fuse - #10(?)Neutral start switch/Transmission Range Sensor?
before starting engine, place car in neutral with car in neutral ,start engine shiftlock should now be bypassed ps:if shiftlock is a problem, check the fuse a blown fuse will cause shiftlock to not work
Did you check the reverse light switch on the shifter ? Could be bad or not contact.
In case of a fault (short) the device could still be energized even with the fuse blown. this means, a fuse in the neutral would never blow in a fault to ground, resulting in a very dangerous situation.
The reverse light fuse can be found in the fuse box. The reverse light fuse relay switch can be found beneath the drivers side dashboard.
there is no fuse that makes the transmission shift the transmission shifts on cylinoids and rpms
Check to see if the brake lights are working - shift interlock is same circuit Check fuse Try moving key to 1st position (unlock) shift to neutral to start car and then shift to Drive
