Very interestingly, he eats several of his crew, only for Odysseus to blind him with a stick, so they can escape. As they sail away Polyphemus prays to his father, the god of the sea, Poseidon, to avenge him losing his eye, and so the great Odysseus is plagued for 9 years, lost at sea, encountering monsters etc, always wanting to return to his wife
That he is going to eat them
Polyphemus, the cyclops, had trapped Odysseus and his men in his cave, and was going to eat them. He had already killed and consumed four of Odysseus' men when Odysseus managed to get him drunk and put out his eye with a hot pointed stick.
because Polyphemus put a large stone in the door way so is his sheep would not get out
The cyclops, Polyphemus, welcomes Odysseus and crew into his home (cave). Polyphemus plot was to bring people to his home, feed them, give them a potent wine that cause them to fall asleep and finally he would eat them. Oydsseus saw the bones lying about when they entered and became uneasy. After the crew wined and dined they fell asleep (except Odysseus) and Polyphemus put his plan into effect, but Odysseus woke the others in an attempt to escape only to be stopped by the large door blocking the entrance. Polyphemus, seeing the his dinner was fleeing started to grab and eat them. Odysseus used rope to trip the cyclops and distract him. While the cyclops was distracted Odysseus and his remaining crew took a large branch from the nearby fire and got Polyphemus to back into a wall and they made him drink his own tainted wine. They grabbed the red-hot branch and rammed him in his only eye with it destroying his sight.Prior to this Odysseus had told him (Polyphemus) that his name was 'Nobody'. As the crew are running to the ship Polyphemus begins to call out the his fellow giants but no one bothers with him because he claims 'Nobody' blinded him. He begins to hurl boulders at the ship and gives up only to pray to his father, Poseidon, who curses the rest of Odysseus' voyage.
because cyclops put a rock in the cave and nobody is strong enough to move it
Odysseus and his men trick, then blind the Cyclops Polyphemus. So, he prays to his father, Poseidon, god of the sea and earthquakes, and asks him to put a curse on Odysseus and his men. Poseidon does and the curse torments them for the rest of their voyage.

I wouldn't call it a battle, per se, but Polyphemus was the Cyclops that imprisoned Odysseus and his men. Odysseus put out his eye and tricked the giant into saying that No Man hurt him when calling for aid.
Odysseus cuts a 6 foot pole off a giant green olive club, tells his men to sharpen it, and then afterwards hides it in the cave. When the cyclops returns home, Odysseus then proceeds to get the cyclops Polyphemus drunk. Polyphemus does so, and falls asleep. Odysseus and his men thrust the pole into the fire to heat it. When it is just about to ignite, they grab the pole and thrust it, flaming, into the cyclops Polyphemus' eye, turning it like a screw.

He calls himself "Nobody" or "No-Man". He also gets the Cyclops drunk and pretends to be "Nobody" instead of himself. Polyphemus (cyclops) gets drunk and asks Odysseus his name. He replied with "Nobody." As the cyclops falls down and collapses, Odysseus and his mean put red hot staff into his eye. When the cyclops screams and awakens, people around him ask him what's wrong. Cyclops replied with, "Nobody's killing me!."

He had taken an enormous piece of timber was laying near Polyphemus' pen for his goats or something, he cut off a good piece and he and his men sharpened it to a hardened point by turning it round and round in the fire, when they had finished they had hidden it, by the time Polyphemus came back. There followed the same horrible feast as before. when it was over Odysseus filled a cup with his own wine that he had brought with him and offered it to Polyphemus. he emptied it with delight and wanted more, and Odysseus obliged him, when he finally fell into a drunken sleep Odysseus put the wood spear into a fire and headed the point and shoved it into Polyphemus' eye blinding him

Not knowing the parentage of Polyphemus (his father was Poseidon, who was already upset with Odysseus), and being a proud man, he probably thought that there was nothing that Polyphemus could do to him once he was on his boat. He was wrong, of course.
Poseidon commanded them to be killed off on their voyage because of the curse he put on Odysseus.
