The worst damage done by dropping the Atom Bomb is that thousands of innocent civilians, men women and children were vaporised; that more thousands became horribly sick and died soon thereafter; that more thousands developed illnesses from radiation later; and Americans became forever known as the only people in the world who ever did such a bad thing. If we had detonated the bomb a few miles out to sea, it would haver ended the war just as soon, without causing that irreparable harm to those people and to our reputation.
