Alberta became a province of Canada in 1903.

--------------------

Alberta became part of Canada when it was purchased from the Hudson Bay Company and transferred from Britain, complete with people. The official year of the purchase and Alberta's Canadian colonial status was 1870.

For many years Alberta was a territory that was located in what is now Southern Alberta. Today's Northern Alberta is located in what was part of the Athabasca territory, which was not part of Ruperts Land.

Rebellions, uprisings and demands for more rights lead to the Prairie colonies being given Provincial Status and all of the Alberta Territory and much of the Athabasca Territory were amalgamated into the new province of Alberta in 1903.
