∙ 13y agoThe eleven states that made up the Confederacy started seceding on December 20, 1860 with the departure of South Carolina. The remaining ten states would follow suit with North Carolina seceding last on May 20, 1861.
Following is the order of secession:
South Carolina- December 20, 1860
Mississippi- January 9, 1861
Florida- January 10
Alabama- January 11
Georgia- January 19
Louisiana- January 26
Texas- February 1
Virginia- April 17
Arkansas and Tennessee- May 6
North Carolina- May 20

∙ 13y agoSecession of the Southern states was a process that lasted over five months. It began when South Carolina seceded on December 20, 1860. Five more states left the Union in January of 1861.
Mississippi on the 9th,
Florida the 10th,
Alabama the 11th,
Georgia on the 19th, and
Louisiana on the 26th.
They were followed by Texas on February 1st.
These states formed the Confederate States of America with Jefferson Davis of Mississippi as the provisional president. This occurred February 18, 1861 at Montgomery, Alabama, the first capital of the new nation.
After the Confederate forces at Charleston, South Carolina fired on Fort Sumter, a fort in Charleston Harbor on April 12 1861, the War for Southern Independence began. This would bring the secession of the last four states.
They were:
Virginia on April 19,
Arkansas and Tennessee on May 6 and finally
North Carolina on May 20.
