Miep Gies found Anne's diary, stored it away, and gave it to Otto Frank when he returned from the camps. Though initially reluctant to do so, Otto eventually decided - based on Anne's own desires, and the encouragement of others - to publish the diary.

It was then published by Contact Publishing in Amsterdam on June 25, 1947, and then an English version by Vallentine, Mitchell, and Co. in England the subsequent year.

in1994 when the Franks' got taken Meip went into the Annexe and found Anne's diary, and some papers to go with it. She saved it until Otto came back from the concentration camp, then he published it years later.
