I used to work in the liquor biz and we were told by our marketing group that in terms of sales Christmas is #1, followed by Thanksgiving at #2. Interestingly though Thanksgiving is supposedly worse for DUI's and DUI related fatalities.
But I guess while people who drink will do so during just about any holiday, Christmas while being a big one in terms of consumption is the largest in terms of sales due to people giving booze as gifts, as well as consuming it.
I recall Easter was a big one, maybe third, while New Years / Valentines (think Champagne) and Mother's Day were others.
But basically any holiday (in America) where people are gathering for a big family meal equates to higher alcohol consumption.
