The eminent English composer Benjamin Britten was a pacifist. During WWII, from 1939, he and his companion, Peter Pears, sailed to North America, where they lived first in Canada, then in the U.S. He continued writing music and interacting with American and other British composers and artists, such as Aaron Copland and W.H.
