What did Chopin like about the piano?

He became friends with Franz Liszt and was admired by Schumann, possibly indicating that he enjoyed their styles. He did put on a number of concerts but his public appearances were very few in his lifetime. He preferred to play for smaller groups of family and friends in private settings rather than in public throughout much of his life, so he may have enjoyed the piano simply as a personal means of expression and artistry.
Most of Chopin's music were the 'paper version' of his improvisations. His nocturnes and mazurkas are among the best examples to prove this fact. In fact, all of his compositions included piano, and a majority of them are for solo piano.
