He brought back spices and salt for the food because they didn't have refrigerators to keep their food fresh so they put spices on them to keep them from rotting, and it made them taste good. He also brought back cacao (the main ingredient in chocolate), some of the native americans, gold, and tobacco.
Columbus sailed to the west to find gold and spices to bring back to Spain and please the King and Queen. In the end, he did not find either of these things, and instead brought back American Indian slaves.
Not much. According to his diary the Taino gave him balls of spun cotton, parrots, spears and other trifles. He writes " and I was attentive and laboured to know if they had gold and I saw that some of them wore a small piece hanging from a hole which they have in the nose." So, he came back with 6 Native Americans ( which he thought would make good slaves) and a few things he listed above.
Note: Columbus explored the Caribbean and never set foot on mainland America! Other explores brought back from America: exotic vegetables and fruit never seen in Europe or Asia before like the potatoes, tomatoes, tabacco, rubber, beans, chocolate, maize and more.

Three ships, about 65 men, 25 cats, and diseases that he passed on to the natives he met.

The answer below is wrong. Columbus made a deal with the Spanish crown to find a water route to Asia and bring them gold, gems, and riches. He found Hispinola in the Bahamas and didn't find what he promised. He never knew that North America existed and pretty much died a sick man who was considered a failure. His son's tried to sue the crown for the items they promised Columbus in their contract with him, but they lost.

Because Columbus and to bring all of his supplies back to the king and queen of Spain so they could have different items to sell and trade.
Since he landed in the Bahamas he saw a tropical island with Native Americans living on it. They were rather poor and didn't have the gold he was looking for. They gave him small items they had made and parrots.
Christopher wanted to find a trade route to Asia. So he can trade items to get the spices Asia had. The spices helped preserve food.
When America's founding father discovered the great land of America, he started a whole system of trade. Many of the population of Europe heard of Columbus' expedition, and decided to go see for themselves, considering it was deemed safe for travel after the Mayflower expedition. This continued until it was unbearable to Native Indians. The Europeans saw great oppurtunity with exchanging items with the Natives and that huge trade system is called the Columbian Exchange. Items that were traded were; livestock, crops, people and even the diseases. The outcome was the Indians dying off of the disease and spoiled food items given from the Europeans.
